Blood, Fish & Bone ruminates on lone voices within a deafening chorus. From the lunatic characters of the Ship of Fools, to the Rime of the Ancient Mariner’s ‘slimy things’, to the confessional murmurs of the modern Margatian; all these orphaned myths and whispers lost at sea infiltrate the rock pools and fertilise the shore.

Billie M Vigne presents a cacophony of dead sea souls. In this work-in-progress show, new metalworks are shown alongside a series of automatic paintings of amalgam sea spirits. Accompanied by an ambient soundscape of noise and mutterings harvested from Margate and Cliftonville.

The semblant relics on show attempt to embody, invoke and commune with these sea souls. The collection emphasises the use of simple, ancient, nomadic metalsmithing techniques such as piercing and surface patinas, alongside hand-crafts - braided cotton and bound human hair, holes made in shells from the bays and beaches of Margate by rubbing them on concrete.

‘The many men, so beautiful! And they all dead did lie:
And a thousand thousand slimy things
Lived on; and so did I.’⠀
